Sustainability as a verb at Meijs Ingenieurs

Sustainability is increasingly being talked about in the construction and demolition industry. In practice, however, it remains a challenge to make sustainability goals truly concrete. At Meijs Ingenieurs, we believe that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is more than a buzzword, it’s a verb. This means that we actively integrate sustainability into our projects and business processes. Whether CO₂ reduction, circular construction or social responsibility – CSR is woven into our daily work.

CSR and sustainability: what’s the difference?

Sustainability and CSR are often used interchangeably, but there is an important difference. While CSR has a broad social basis, sustainability focuses on ecological and environmental issues. At Meijs Ingenieurs, we combine these approaches and strive for a balance between people, society and the environment. The result? Projects that are not only profitable, but also contribute to a more sustainable world.

From words to action: concrete measures

At Meijs Ingenieurs, we work towards a sustainable impact in various ways. Some of our most important initiatives are

  1. Material inventory and concrete transplantation: By carefully inventorying materials and preserving reusable elements, we reduce the need for new raw materials. This saves CO₂ and contributes to circular construction.
  2. Sustainability collaborations: We are part of Circle City and The New Builders, networks that promote zero-waste and socially responsible construction projects. As part of these collaborations, we reduce waste and support people who do not have access to the labour market.
  3. ISO 14001 and CO₂ certification: We are ISO 14001 certified, which means that environmental protection is firmly anchored in our policy. Our CO₂ certificate demonstrates our commitment to a gradual reduction in emissions with concrete measures that we evaluate and improve annually.

Transparency and commitment

At Meijs Ingenieurs, we are convinced that honesty and transparency are the basis for truly sustainable business. Sustainability is not a marketing term, but something we want to exemplify in practice. By recording our results in reports and sharing them openly, we want to contribute to a new standard in the construction industry. For us, it’s not enough to appear ‘green’; it’s about bringing about real and measurable change.
